Style and technique...

Working primarily with pastels on paper, my method is simple and conventional, resulting in a style that is contemporary and bold producing 'portraits with passion' that provoke curiosity and create impact on any interior.

I work with hard to soft pastels building up layers, starting each piece with conté pencils, carefully drawing my shapes, then blocking in the colours as I work through the layers using progressively softer pastels - using only my fingers for blending.

Working from a reference photograph, I enlarge the image to create a portrait framed by the papers edges, creating a powerful composition.

I enjoy the challenge of enlarging the face, allowing for added detail and interest resulting in a dramatic different dimension. I aim to draw your perfect portrait, hopefully achieving an individual and inspiring work of art at any size, to capture the subjects personality.
